Day before D-Day

Who says I haven’t had my share of D-Days? Whether it’s the night before an exam you’ve studied for all year, the eve of a big interview, your wedding, or a crucial presentation, the feelings are always the same. I’ve felt that too for some of it — the butterflies fluttering wildly in my stomach all at once, ready to take over for hours, the tension between wanting to sleep yet feeling the need to do everything at once, the desire to gulp down coffee even though you’ve had enough, and the overwhelming urge to flee from it all.

So at times what do we feel?— People who aren’t ready don’t have their D-Days.

The truth is, even the unprepared or half-prepared face their D-Days, though theirs are tainted with guilt. That’s the difference — they carry the weight of regret along with their nerves. And yes, even the careless ones feel it, because, trust me, I’ve been there too.

Regardless of how prepared we are, if we’re all experiencing these same emotions, then we’re all sailing in the same boat.

We all face the day before D-Day, but what sets us apart is how we handle it — with either the pride of preparation or the burden of guilt. And guilt is a terrible friend to keep.

So, here’s to welcoming my day before D-Day, knowing that it’s making me stronger for tomorrow. I hope you, too, can find strength in yours.
